Recent research has shown the benefit of flex seating options in the classroom. I have 24 students in my class, just me, no aides. I try to do all I can to differentiate my teaching strategies and assessments, but I cannot do it all. Giving students an option on where to sit, and make them more comfortable will increase engagement and retention. The active wobble chairs (Active kids chair-active chairs for toddlers, pre-schoolers, and children who can’t sit still) are utilized in other classrooms and teachers have told me how amazing they are for kiddos who need to move a bit. I would love to utilize these in my classroom to give student opportunities to move. Along with our frequent “brain breaks,” flexible seating offers students opportunities to move around. The colored stools (fat catalog assorted colors metal stool with padded seat) would be amazing for my small guided instruction reading group! The lap desks (lap desk for kids with storage portable children’s table for homework or reading breakfast bed tray child art plastic stackable table) would be wonderful for students to use in my library area so they comfortably complete independent work. Flex seating is also used as an incentive. When they show character traits, growth mindset, and good behavior, they will get options on where to sit. Flex seating just makes sense. I work better when I am more comfortable, students do too! They are such amazing kids, and they really deserve to have some fun flex seating options in our classroom! Thank you so much for your consideration. It is greatly appreciated by my sweet first grades and myself!
