My students will be coming to my classroom for social skills. During this time, the students will be developing their own toolbox on ways that they can self-regulate when they become upset or frustrated. The books will be used as a teaching tool to help students identify what they need to do to be successful in school. The breathing balls are a visual that students can use while they practice their breathing to calm down. Once they build their own self-regulation tool box, the calm down area (curtains) will be one area that the students can go to practice their self-regulation skills. The school is requiring that I replace my current curtains with fire retardant curtains for the calm down area. When my students develop their own tool box for self-regulation, they will not only become more successful in the classroom, but they will also develop skills to become successful adults.
