My students are 7 and 8 year old children from a Midwest Illinois town. They come to second grade excited to learn. Many come to second grade reading chapter books and writing creative stories, and some students have difficulty reading and writing simple sentences. Most can easily navigate a computer mouse and can make their way easily around a computer game. They are 21st century learners, and technology is a part of their everyday home life whether they are using a Digital TV, gaming system, ipod, DVD, computer, or cell phone. Students are coming to school with the technological know-how, and we need to tap into that excitement to keep learning alive and enticing for them. Technology is a must for them to be successful not only in school but the future workplace. It all starts in the classroom - that excitement for school and learning as well as using technology.
