I plan to implement book clubs in my classroom. Groups will read the same novel and discuss within their groups what they have read. They will hold meaningful discussions and question themes or topic to explore. I want students to love reading and learn how to talk to one another about topics. They will need to have a group of different books such as The Hate You Give or Out of my Mind to choose from. Their selection will determine groups. The selection provides for a wider range of text complexity. Students will also engage in "thought logs" to track questions and/or key concepts in the text. The goal is for these discussions to continue outside the classroom and create an epidemic of reading.
