Most of the items on the list will contribute to my classroom library. High-interest novels, graphic novels, and non-fiction pieces provide student variety and motivate students to read independently. The futon will be placed in a "Reading Nook" specifically for independent reading time. Students will be able to relax comfortably while reading which helps make them comfortable and promotes positive thought while reading. Students may not love to read when they walk in my door, but they will be met with an opportunity to open their minds and imaginations through literature. Studies show that when students are engaged and challenged through independent reading, they often become life-long readers. This is my hope for the students in my classroom. I hope to create and inspire life-long readers, and thus, life-long learners.
