All learners, but especially English learners, need to experience language in all domains (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). Often times, English learners are thought to be more proficient in English based on their conversational skills, but it is the academic language that tends to need more support. A classroom set of headphones with microphones will allow students to focus on the development of their academic language through a variety of engaging activities, including videos, read alouds, conversations, presentations, and so much more. With the use of technology, students can experience differentiated learning that will meet them at their level and help them progress and find success. The use of the headphones and mics will allow students to listen to prompts and to record themselves responding or presenting. I, then, have the opportunity to provide verbal feedback to students, allowing them to continue listening, reflecting, and improving. It is no secret that technology has grown immensely over the last few years, and many people fear that communication skills will quickly be lost. Please, help me use that technology to foster and grow the communication skills of the students in my classroom. They will develop a desire to learn and will succeed beyond my wildest expectations.
