My CATsters are brilliant. With smaller class sizes, I have the opportunity each day to nurture deep relationships with my students. The more I know about their lives, the more humbled I am to learn with them. The vast majority of my students will be the first in their families to attend college. As they navigate this journey, my task is to ensure that they have the critical thinking, writing, and self-advocacy skills necessary to not only make it to college, but to persist. In my classroom, we grapple with what it looks and feels like to meaningfully engage with other perspectives, challenge modern injustices, and act responsibly as global citizens. Our student body is predominately Latinx and African-American; nearly 75% of our student population is eligible for free and reduced lunch.
