Flexible seating creates choice and comfort. When kids are comfortable, they are engaged and when kids are engaged, they are learning! Flexible seating, also called alternative seating, provides a twenty-first century classroom for scholars! There is no better way to show that you support a student centered classroom then creating a classroom from a child’s point of view! Comfortable students equal student engagement. Classroom ownership equals student engagement. Empowering choice equals student engagement. Being uncomfortable is unhealthy in numerous ways but most importantly, it does not improve attention and work ethic. I wouldn’t want to sit in an uncomfortable desk chair all day, so why should my students?
