My students are a part of a low-income community with a largely Latino immigrant population. They come to school as English Language Learners, with limited English vocabulary skills. Our school follows a full inclusion model of special education, so some of my students also have special needs. While their conditions may seem dire, they come to school with so much to offer. They learn to become bilingual, they have extraordinary life experiences to share, and they can be inspired to be life long learners. They fare well in mathematics, but need lots of support in Language Arts, including writing and reading. Because of this challenge, I am seeking support in gathering resources to effectively teach writing.
