Do you remember feeling antsy sitting in your same seat all day in school? I know that I couldn't wait to get up and move around or at least get a little change of scenery. My students feel the same way and they are more successful in the classroom when they can choose their workspace and have a seat that allows them to stretch out, wiggle a little, and even fidget while they work. Last year my students loved finding a work spot under tables, on the classroom rug, or behind our computer cart. This year I would love to provide them the opportunity to choose between several flexible seating options. Allowing students the ability to choose their workspace helps to keep them focused and engaged with their class work. The students will be able to choose from Wobble chairs, floor cushions, and surf lap desks. The Wobble chairs allow the students to literally wobble and wiggle back and forth while they work. This actually helps them to focus on their work! The floor cushions give them more of a comfortable option when choosing which area they would like to sit. One of the more unique flexible seating options are the portable surf lap desks. The students can sit on their knees, cross-legged, or with their legs straight out. Attached to the chair is a small work area that allows them to use their Chromebooks or to even write, at an elevated level. The students will love them! By giving the students options they are less disruptive to their classmates and can work in various areas of the room during independent time. Flexible seating is another positive way we can bring joy to the students' lives while in the classroom.
