I am committed to making the learning environment much more student friendly. Gone are the days where the students should be seated in straight rows. That is no longer what the 2018 classroom looks like. Our students have evolved and so must the classroom and flexible seating will do just that. With the different options for the students, flexible seating caters to their different learning needs and learning obstacles. I'm trying to incorporate the following: (1) two café style tables with stools to allow some students to stand if they feel the need or to sit up higher during instruction time. (2) a coffee table and throw pillows to allow for seating on the floor, but also a hard surface to write and do their work, (3) six lap desks for students that want to sit and work on the floor or in chairs, but away from a desk or table, and (4) two butterfly chairs that are easy to fold and unfold and place around the room for flexible seating. These different seating options will give these students a better chance to be more engaged in their education! I normally don't ask for help. I usually purchase all the supplies and decorations for my classroom. However, this is a large project and trying to purchase supplies, decorations, and new seating is just not within my personal financial means. Please help me make a difference in their lives.
