My students will read and study the novel A Long Walk to Water, which is based on a true story about a Lost Boy from Sudan who walks through Africa searching for his family and for safety. Through the riveting novel, my students learn about hope, resilience, compassion and the impact one person can have to change thousands of lives. The story is so fascinating that it instantly engages all children in reading. We will read this book as a class novel study. We will also study vocabulary through the novel and we will also write an essay on the main character and his activist work. We will learn about the main character's nonprofit he started, Water for South Sudan. Students will also work on their own Passion Projects to help others.
