Imagine being crammed into a room with 23 other people. There's not a lot of space, so the only place where you can learn is sitting right at your uncomfortable desk and chair. How long could you work before you become bored? As an adult, it is hard for me to focus for longer than 30 minutes if I am uncomfortable, much less 8 hours. I would love to give my students many different seating options where they can proactively move and still keep their minds engaged in the content I am teaching. Students need to be able to move around and work where they feel most comfortable. If students had the opportunity to use the floor cushions and wiggle seats, they would feel more at ease learning in a comfortable position that is best for them. The multicolored stools are a great fit for students who need the opportunity to move and learn at the same time. The balance balls would provide antsy students the opportunity to release some of their energy without distracting others. Flexible seating would be a great tool to use with my active young learners. Without the chance to actively and responsibly release energy, students could become a distraction to others or disrupt the class. Flexible seating will ultimately help the students of my classroom to be successful in socializing and learning.
