As a San Francisco native, I am proud to be teaching in the city's public school system, one in which the diversity of this amazing city is broadly represented. Our classroom population further demonstrates the beautiful diversity of San Francisco. It is mostly comprised of immigrant families, or descendents of immigrants. Children representing a multitude of different countries and cultures (including Asia, Africa, Central and South America, as well as Western and Eastern Europe) come together in our room to share and learn together. Because of the high costs of living in the city, student families often live in 3-generation households, with 30-40% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Regardless of their background or family situation, every child comes to class eager to learn and excited to show what they are capable of doing.
