These books will enhance our reading lessons by introducing engaging texts to all students. We will use these books to better understand story elements; characters, setting, problem, solution, etc. Each book will be used by the class for a whole week then will be placed in our classroom library for students to read and enjoy. I hope to create independent readers by allowing students access to books they are interested in, along with being at their level. To encourage independent reading, students will use their individual book bin to store their books that they will read during their workshop time. The best part is that they get to "shop" for their own books, i.e. picking out the books they want to read. My students love to listen to stories, just as much as they love to read them themselves. With our new headphones, students will be able to enjoy more stories and enhance their fluency and comprehension by listening and responding to a variety of texts during our workshop time each day. With each new item, students will will be engaged and develop a strong love for reading.
