Right now, most of my students have no access to the internet outside of the classroom, which makes it difficult for them to conduct research and keep up with current events as I would like them to. Limited access to technology means that my students are somewhat disconnected from the wealth of knowledge that exists online and can be tapped into via 21st century technology. My students that do have access to smartphones and the internet don't know how to use those devices for constructive purposes. My students are thirsting for knowledge. Each day, they come into my room with a plethora of questions. Many of them I can answer, some I cannot. They would benefit greatly from having the resources needed to find answers for themselves. Having access to the internet under the supervision of a teacher who can show them how to use it constructively would increase their literacy skills, improve their ability to research and work with primary and secondary sources, and, I believe, would give them a better shot at success in a very much technology-dependent world.
