The library of decodable books will help my students to become better readers. Most school libraries do not carry decodable books; yet, these are the kinds of books that students with dyslexia require in order to read accurately. My students do not have the option of checking out these types of books from our school library, nor can their parents afford to buy them. I work at a Title 1 school and know that my students have limited resources at home. By having our own decodable library in our classroom, I will be able to let each student check out books that are appropriate, while also engaging. The books that I have selected are designed to enforce good reading habits, such as using phonics skills to decode instead of guessing based on context and illustrations. By being able to read these books in the classroom and also at home, students will be gaining invaluable reading practice that is crucial for developing reading fluency; especially for students with dyslexia. Please help make this library a reality in my classroom so we can give these precious children the gift of literacy!
