I want to create a weaving station in my classroom so students can have the opportunity to practice fine motor skills, attention to detail, and concentration. Weaving is a tradition in many cultures around the world, and I believe it is important to show my students the skill and craft that goes into handmade functional objects. I want them to develop an appreciation for handmade objects and understand how it connects us to humanity. I also want them to work on developing their fine motor skills, because many of them do not get the opportunity to work with their hands outside of art class. The table looms will be necessary for them to have the experience of weaving on a real loom. I believe they will be more engaged and take pride in their work because all pieces will be a collaboration with others in their grade level.
