Change is good, right?! My classroom has always been more of a relaxed atmosphere when it comes to seating. Students are allowed to sit around the room, under tables, stand, partner up, or just stay at their table. This gives students options for learning; however, it is somewhat limiting. After much thought and observation, I'm doing the changing! My classroom is under construction. Learning styles require learning curves. These "curves" have sparked a change in how I want to transform student interaction. Over several months, I have collected different types of "furniture" and now I'm down to the seating choices. I want my students to have a space of their own while taking ownership of their learning. Each of these seating options will help support movement and encourage good posture. Rock, bounce, lean, or stand. My goal is to reduce the amount of sedentary periods students experience in a classroom and prevent behavior problems. I know that this process will take time and I want it to be a successful transformation. My desire is for my room to result in a more engaging, active, enthusiastic, yet relaxed atmosphere where students want to come and learn.
