My students need outdoor equipment. They go out to recess and have nothing to play with. What is the point in having a basketball court if you don't have a ball to play with? Too often I look around at recess and students are sitting around. I think the equipment will encourage kids to get up. While the sports equipment teaches the kids to play cooperatively, the garden tools will teach students responsibility. Our classroom is starting a garden! They will need tools to take care of it and perform experiments. They will need the trowels to dig in the garden and check on our vegetables. The students will also be starting an compost pile. They will need the larger shovel to turn the pile.
