At the start of kindergarten, the majority of my students cannot recognize and name the letters in the alphabet. 40% of my students are English Language Learners and are the most supported by visual and kinesthetic activities to learn the alphabet. Each week we will focus on 1 to 2 letters and use the "All About Letters Pocket Chart" to introduce the students to the letters each week. My students participate in literacy centers everyday while one group of students will use the "Learn the Alphabet Dough Mats" and "Dough Stampers" to familizarize themselves with the letters another group of students will use the "Snap-Together Letter Blocks" or the "Giant Alphabet Beads" to practice placing the letters in order. Last year my studetns loved using the "Alphabet Learning Locks" so much to practice recognizing corresponding uppercase and lowercase letters. The "Connect and Store Book Bin" will provide a place for my students to store their books. Finally, the "Store and Display Teaching Cart" will provide me the multifaceted storage I need to organize and teach lessons everyday. The combination of the series of kinestretic and visual activities will help students to build letter recognition fluency. Learning the names and sounds of the alphabet is the foundation of reading. Students will also be able to collaborate with one another while learning the alphabet. By mastering the foundational skill of recognizing and naming letters in the alphabet, my kinder students will be able to build sight words and spell short words at the end of the year. These games and materials will make it easier to differentiate instruction and make learning fun! Students will be able to master the foundational skills they need to become super stars
