If this project is funded, I will be able to offer my students freedom of choice in terms of their seating. Flexible seating is a great option to be able to provide as it holds many benefits. The most beneficial being that students need to be comfortable while they are actively learning in order to remain focused and productive. Children learn in different ways (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, reading/writing), so imagine their desire for a variety of seating options in order to be comfortable while working their hardest. Flexible, or alternative, seating and Daily 5 are a "perfect fit". I've been participating in a Daily 5 Book Study this year to better my understanding of the Daily 5 philosophy. In Chapter 4: What Do You Need to Begin the Daily 5, of the second edition of "The Daily 5" by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser, it states that comfort plays a large role in stamina. Equally important, the classroom design should allow for a "variety of seating options to discover which ones fit best with their personalities and learning styles." These options include low tables for floor sitting, regular tables/desks with chairs, balls, or stools to sit on, high counters or standing desks, comfortable seating, area rugs or yoga mats, etc., most of which you can find in this project request! While my personal goal is to continue working towards being the best possible teacher, please consider donating to help my students reach their goal in becoming top-notch learners!
