Having a leveled library in the classroom will give students the opportunity to read a large number of books at school and home. Students will experience books from different genres and levels. There is a correlation between the amount of books you read and your academic success. Unfortunately, many of these students don't have books at home. This library of leveled books will give students the opportunity to read beyond school hours and improve their chances to succeed. With the help of the teacher, students will set reading goals. Using the leveled library, students then choose books they can read independently. They will have 5 books at a time in their personal book boxes. Students can read from their book boxes during independent reading time or any time they finish something early. After 6 weeks, students will be assessed and write new goals. We will continue this process all year until students are the best readers they can be. The more books available to read, the more opportunities students will have to improve their skills.
