Most of our students have spent their entire lives in Chicago. Their neighborhood is ridden with violence, poverty, and lack of opportunity. While we try to make the classroom an interactive, safe learning environment, our students still need hands-on experiences beyond the walls of their classrooms and the concrete walls of their city. This camping experience will provide them with space from the challenges of their everyday lives and will allow them to be just what they are: kids. Through campfires, swimming, hiking, and games, our students will be able to learn more about the world around them and themselves and a healthy community. This project works to invest not only in the experience but in developing the minds of Chicago's youth.

About my class
