Our goal is to use Tell Them We Remember as a guide for improving the students' English Language Arts skills. The hope is that the students will not only improve their reading and writing abilities, but also improve their ability to make inferences and argue claims. The great thing about Tell Them We Remember is that it provides a historical perspective that these kids actually want to learn about. It is something that truly engages them! What's more, the book also has value outside of English. It provides students with lessons in tolerance, compassion, and other major social issues that relate to current, real-world circumstances.
