My goal for this year is to motive my students to find the love for reading! These books offer a wide variety that should be of interest to all students! Unfortunately, at the middle school age, more students are being consumed with electronics and forgetting the importance of reading. These books were carefully selected, reviewed by many experts, and highly recommended for students of this age. My goal is for these books to inspire my students, spark creativity, and ultimately motivate them to continue to read for fun. Pleasure reading is vital for a student and brings many positives. I plan to instill a reading incentive program in my classroom called "Rich Picks" that motivate students to read. Each student will be required to read 2 books from the list throughout the school year. However, if students read more, they will receive prizes for their extra work. Some of the prizes include candy bars, bookmarks, pencils, etc. By having these books readily available on my bookshelf, students will always have an opportunity to check a book out and read in the reading nook. Because of this, providing a comfortable rug for them to sit back and engage in a book is vital! This creates a cozy environment that encourages reading. Ultimately, I want to make sure that my students are provided with plenty of choices and availability of books. I hope that by having a fully stocked classroom library with a wide variety of genres and comfortable reading space, I will be able to motivate lifelong readers in my students!
