Over the past two years I have accumulated lots of math manipulatives for hands on learning! This year my school has provided me with additional manipulatives. I have lots of manipulatives now, but no system for organizing them. Math can be challenging for students, but manipulatives (base ten blocks, counters, place value disks, etc.) provide students with a visual and kinesthetic aid. Science shows that students learn better, faster, and are more likely to retain the knowledge gained when able to work hands on with materials. Manipulatives allow kids to fully engage themselves in the learning and reach that "aha" moment! The project would include a bookshelf and plastic bins for all the manipulatives to be sorted and organized.
