In my experience, I've learned that students learn best when given the ability and flexibility in having a role in the way they learn. Reading is an essential part of learning which is why I am choosing to create a reading nook in my classroom this year. The crates will be recreated into benches/chairs with cushions to be placed around the table for group work. Students will also have the flexibility to move around the room with these. The furniture in all will create a vibrant and exciting area of the classroom, giving students the motivation to learn. This area also promotes ways of engaging with others during projects and assignments throughout the year. Students will be given the option to choose what type of chair they would like to do their learning in for the day. Students will be able to choose from a stool, exercise ball, wiggle cushion, cushioned crate, and bouncy band. All of these flexible seating options will allow students to choose how and where they want to learn in a comfortable manner. Many of these seating options are great for students who struggle with ADHD and have difficulties staying focused. We cannot look at the change in our modernized world and then look into a classroom that is not modernized. Students learn differently and I am wanting to provide them with as much flexibility in my classroom as possible in order to help them succeed.
