This year we are starting a new inquiry based science curriculum. Students will be using hands on activities and computer simulations to discover science concepts instead of learning from a textbook. To make this curriculum come to life, students need the ability to interact with the computer simulations in small groups instead of watching a demonstration in front of the classroom. Having enough technology for students will allow them to develop the technology skills to succeed in the 21st century world. They will be taking on different roles such as planetary geologists, astrophotographers, engineers, physicists and paleontologists. In each unit students will experience a different science career and work to solve a real world problem. In one of our exciting units, students will be working as physicists to determine why a magnetic launcher designed to send a rocket into space is not launching at the correct speeds. In this unit students will be using several computer generated simulations to recreate launch conditions. Having technology to work in small groups to perform research and utilize the simulations to their potential would provide my students with the best experience! The world needs more scientists!
