Most of my third-grade students are reluctant readers. To hook them into reading, they need an interesting classroom library and comfortable seating. I plan to use the materials provided by donors to build my classroom library with current books the students would be interested in reading. The comfortable bean bags that I asked for will allow the students to sit comfortably while reading. Providing the students with excitable books and cozy seating, I hope to change reluctant readers hooked on reading. Motivated readers read more and increase their reading skills. Through conferencing with the students about what they are reading, I will reinforce with a minilesson on reading strategies that will help them with reading for meaning. When students enter third they have learned how to read. The students then must take what they have learned about how to read and turn it into reading for meaning. The students learn new reading strategies to help them understand what they are reading. My goal is to increase the students' ability to understand what they are reading by hooking them to read!
