My Elementary class is in an exceptionally diverse, Title 1 school (95% free and reduced lunch), and is comprised of a student body, which is 55.4% Hispanic/Latino, 30.9% African American, 5.7% Asian, and 4.9% White. Last year my 33-student class was comprised of 30% currently classified English Language Learners and 21% had Individualized Educational Plans or a specific learning need. I plan and implement instruction in a class that needs significant behavioral support. Last spring I implemented lunchtime reading groups, where I met with 6 groups (28 students), on alternating days of the week to work on specific academic reading strategies and skills. My students love learning and reading, they just need the adequate resources. Thank you for helping my spirited second graders start their year off right!
