I want to provide my students with a variety of choices in their seating to help channel their focus in a positive manner. Our classroom environments should be encouraging to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Revitalizing space is a way to let students exercise choice in the learning environment and find academic success on their own terms. Redesigning the classroom space to meet students’ individual needs impacts how they learn, how they interact, and the entire classroom experience. The redesign influences levels of interaction and engagement. Engagement and active learning improves retention for students. Self-directed learning and collaborative problem solving are essential skills for success. If my students are uncomfortable, they are distracted. Choices in seating will help accelerate active participation. A variety of seating options can help provide this opportunity to my class.
