Our District is a small rural District in the foothills outside of Yosemite National Park. We do not have interactive whiteboards, nor the funds to purchase them. Having a document reader in class will allow me to expose all students to print materials across the curriculum while having to purchase only one copy. This year is our Fairy Tale Ball, and it will be so wonderful to explore the cultures and various countries depicted in tales from lands far away. As we read together, students can practice fluency and experience enlarged print and illustrations. While displaying the text with the document reader, we will use the whiteboards to take notes, write quotations, cite textual evidence and compare the many cultures we experience. Students will be able to read aloud together, accessing the text even if they are not fluent readers. They can use the pointer to "teach" the class about character traits, quotations, and text features. The print will come alive as will the characters, enlarging before our eyes on our classroom whiteboard.
