My student's need a classroom carpet that is big enough to gather as a whole group. We will use this at many times throughout the day. It will provide us with a place to meet first thing in the morning to discuss our daily goals, calendar and important business for the day. Later this gathering place will provide my students with a place to hear a read aloud or shared reading book. This opens up to discussion that leads to problem / solution, main idea, character traits and many other Literacy skills. A classroom carpet large enough for my entire class to sit on spaciously will allow us to meet together for our daily math number talks. This daily activity promotes number sense so students actually understand the math they are learning. Many times throughout the year, we work on classroom projects. Examples of these are: Important People Biographies and our Classroom Marketplace. These activities require students to work in small groups to research and compose a presentable project. Having a classroom carpet with keep them from having to sit on a cold hard floor.
