With increasing pressures that students face daily with high stakes testing and a jam packed curriculum, students and even parents are often stressed over their educational experience. I believe that if students can enter the classroom each day knowing they get to start the day with choices that allow independence, mobility, choice, and variety, this will allow them to feel comfortable, happy, and give them the movement that they need during a long school day! A flexible seating classroom will allow this to take place! Flexible seating will offer so many benefits for my students especially including those with sensory needs and the option for movement. Flexible seating means students are not spending their day in the typical classroom seating. They have the option of using bean bags, floor pillows, lap desks, foot fidget bands, wobble seats, exercise balls, etc. The options are endless! This allows students to feel comfortable physically or more like they are learning in a 'home' environment. Other benefits include: 1. Choice of Seating 2. Physical Health - Strengthens Core and Provides Exercise 3. Comfortable Seating VS Hard Metal Chairs 4. Sensory Input 5. Fun 6. Increased Engagement 7. Ownership I truly believe that if I can create a classroom where students are physically comfortable, it will allow them to open their minds to make the most of their educational experience!
