Sometimes, in order to ensure we get through all of the curricula, reading for the enjoyment of reading gets left behind. This year, during a session at nErDcampMI, I was inspired by a teacher and her classroom book a day project. She talked about a simple concept that would allow my classroom the joy of hearing a book a day while exposing students to a variety of cultures and differences. Books such as "Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut", "Beautiful" and "All Are Welcome" are not only artfully designed and a joy to listen to, they also reinforce the important theme of pride in yourself and acceptance of all. Each day, as a K/1 team, we would use these books to facilitate conversations on a variety of topics, but more importantly in developing a love and passion for reading. So please help me give students these types of books and help our school become a classroom book a day site!
