My preschool students attend an elementary school in a high poverty area in a large city in North Carolina. My classroom is made up of 18 students who are all considered at risk and receive NC Prek funds to attend, as well as, free breakfast and lunch. My students are a blend of many cultures and languages, as well as varying abilities developmentally. These students are excited about learning, however, they need many different materials and hands on experiences to keep their attention, as they have very short attention spans and have extreme energy levels. The families are wonderful and supportive of our classroom, however they struggle to make ends meet financially.
