The items on my list, such as notebooks and a document camera, are crucial to organizing my STEM classroom so that my students can develop mastery of biological concepts, the ability to think critically, and empower themselves in school and beyond. Most importantly, these materials will help cultivate an equitable classroom environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed, independently of their ability to purchase school supplies. In order to build scientific inquiry skills, my STEM students will work towards communicating like scientists in our class discussions, labs, and writing. While seemingly trivial, my students last year benefited immensely from organizing important biological concepts in their notebooks. I aim to support my students in developing college-ready skills, including independent note taking and organization.
