Have you ever tapped your pencil while thinking? How about wiggling your feet while reading? Like you, some students have excess energy and others just work and learn better when they can move. During independent working time, I believe in letting my students choose to work where they are most comfortable. For some this means staying at his/her table and sitting in his/her chair. You will, however, find some students lying on the floor with clipboards, sitting in a rocking chair, and sitting on crates at a table that has been lowered. I’d love to offer some wobble chairs in my classroom as another option for those students.
