Technology is everywhere! Unfortunately, my classroom lacks some of the technological tools that could make it even better. Sometimes technology is so entwined in our lives that it overtakes everything else. I work hard to maintain a balance. If you were to look into my classroom over a day or week, you would see many different ways of instruction. Some of these include manipulatives, project-based learning, storytelling, and reciprocal teaching. I recently attended a workshop with an emphasis on using multiple tools. I have all of my puzzle pieces except technology. Technology has been part of my classroom for years now, but two computers and two iPads fail to meet the needs of 20 students. If used correctly iPads and the applications they support will help prepare my students for their future endeavors. I work daily to integrate all of the best teaching strategies. Of all the resources, tech needs are the expensive ones! Currently, I am able to check out a cart of computers, but I must share with my peers. We have over 900 students so integrating technology on a daily basis is not always possible. One of my students' favorite ways to review is by using devices to play a game called Kahoot. It is a very fun and interactive way to review and obtain formative assessments, but to play we need more iPads. Our school purchases many expensive math and reading programs, but I feel that many times our school is not getting their money's worth. Help me give my students I pads so perhaps we can be on a more level playing field with others in our county and state.
