Unfortunately, a growing trend with today's youth are the words, "I can't do it." As teachers we hear this too many times to count each day. We spend just as much time encouraging children to think positively and work hard as we do teaching the grade level standards. If we want children to be as successful as they can be, as successful as we expect them to be, we have to provide daily opportunities that instill the importance of positive self talk!! I believe I can do this in my classroom by working with my students to improve their growth mindset. When we talk about having a positive growth mindset the thought becomes "I can't do this YET," rather than "I can't do it." The resource and picture books that I have included in this project will prepare me and my students for our journey towards a more positive growth mindset. I plan on using the picture books to show my students how other kids deal with their problems without giving up. These books will be available for my students to always go back to and reread whenever they need some encouragement. There are also many lessons and resources available that I can incorporate into my daily instruction to help emphasize the theme behind each story.
