Teachers are responsible for teaching more to their students than just academics. We teach conflict resolution, how to manage their own feelings, and how to be resilient (to name just a few). As our school embarks on a new framework for understanding students' challenging behavior and helping them develop the skills necessary to meet those challenges collaboratively, I want to create a space in my classroom where students will be afforded privacy to work through challenges. These materials create a peaceful, comfortable place for students to decompress and regroup. The partition offers privacy, the chairs provide a comfortable place to sit, and this area will be filled with items to help them calm themselves. This in-class space stays within my view while offering a level of privacy.
