This colorful, comfortable, and inviting classroom will help students develop of love of reading. This unique program comes with unique challenges like how to design one space that will meet the needs of students ages 5 to 9. I chose these items because they are versatile enough to serve the wide varieties of learning styles and age groups represented in my K-3 classroom. The beanbag chairs will provide a cozy environment for independent reading. My hope is that they will attract readers to this section of the classroom and thereby increase student desire for independent reading. The rockers will be used in my listening section where students will relax, listen, and follow along with virtual audiobooks. Students will use clipboards along with individual carpet circles to write and draw book reviews. This practice will encourage students to share their reading adventures with their classmates. Students can also use these materials for creative writing and word work. The portability of these items will mean that students can work where they feel the most comfortable and successful. Please know that the options seen in this proposal are just a part of the classroom environment that I have designed. Additional materials and flexible seating options may be posted at a later date.
