I absolutely love building connections with my students as we bond over literature, but unfortunately our classroom space is not conducive to daily reading. The throw pillows, lamp, and fluorescent light covers will create a calming, inviting atmosphere to help us truly kick-back, relax, and read during our daily independent reading time. The new bookshelves will house our classroom library books, and they will be organized by genre using a color-coding system with the multi-colored labels. Lastly, the new selection of novels, depicting the lives of strong male and female protagonists from various backgrounds, will connect with the culturally-diverse students in our classroom. The research does not lie: in order to become a better reader, one must READ; in order to become a better writer, one must READ. Reading is the foundation of a young adult's life, and as an English teacher, is it my job to foster the love of reading in every student. With a refreshed classroom library and welcoming environment, I can share my passion for literature with my students and help them become life-long readers.
