Hi there! My name is Alexis Ferrell and I am a first-year teacher in a first-grade classroom. Teaching is my passion and I am so excited to begin my teaching career in September. However, being a first-year teacher, I need your help! My project is focused on building a solid foundation in my classroom by creating a classroom community where all students, regardless of outside challenges, feel like they are apart of their learning experience. Some items are as simple as school supplies (pencil sharpener, expo markers, scissors and glue sticks), supplies that will allow my students to be ready to learn each day. Additionally, I have included some items that will be used during whole-group instruction. These items include a chart stand and easel pad for making anchor charts with my students, a number pocket chart to help build number sense, and grouping pencils to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to be involved in their own learning. Additionally, I have requested magnetic tape that allows me to make certain activities magnetic to use during whole-group lessons. I also requested a grading easy calculator to help ease grading tests. Other resources I have requested will help keep our classroom neat and easily accessible to my students. These include classroom mailboxes where my students will store their folders/homework books, storage bins, and a classroom book shelf where my students can have a display of the books of the month. Lastly, I have requested resources to help engage my students. These resources include magnetic ten frames for math stations, puzzle pieces that can be manipulated to suit any content, dry erase pockets that allow activities to be reusable, sentence strips, manipulatives such cubes and Jenga (where the pieces can have math facts or sight words), and answer buzzers.
