This is my second year teaching! In all my studies, as well as during my first year of teaching, I learned that students flourish when they have the freedom to move around. Flexible seating means students change their seating weekly which helps build a sense of community throughout the classroom. If a child cannot learn the way we teach perhaps we should teach them the way they are sure to learn! I have requested a small table and foam knee pads to be used by 6 - 8 students as one seating option. The foam is easy to disinfect which is a must in an elementary school. The rugs and moveable shelves will be used to make a comfy reading corner for students. The other "chair options will give students a wide variety of choices throughout the year. My second grade class typically host 22 to 24 seven year olds. Being that my classroom is a portable the room is very small. The crates, tension rods and comand hooks will be used to organize all materials that students will be using throughout the year. I truly believe that diversity in the classroom is important and this includes the enviornment and way the students learn, not just the material they are learning. Having a well organized, flexible classroom truly aids in providing a diverse learning enviornment for all of my students.
