Learning through play is a vital part of education! Due to the unique needs of my classroom, I am always trying to find creative and engaging materials to help guide my students in learning. This light table would be an extremely motivating item to help my students with special needs learn social skills (sharing, cooperating) and communication skills (requesting items/tacting). As well as this, the table would help my students develop their fine motor skills (picking up and manipulating objects) and creative thinking skills (building and manipulating the items to create different things). In addition to this, the light table would help me to guide my students with their early literacy skills (naming letters and sounds) and early math skills (patterning, counting, adding, subtracting, numeral identification). With this light table and number, letter, pattern blocks and other translucent manipulatives, my students, especially those with special needs, would have an extremely motivating center to work in! At times the items in the classroom can get "boring" and un-motivating for students. This table would provide a space where my students would always be engaged and excited to be in, and allow them to practice all of the skills they need to be successful in kindergarten!
