With the unique needs in my classroom, I would really like to make my room more sensory friendly. Light covers will help dim the lighting to create a more inviting learning space. Lap desks, sensory table, and hands on materials will allow my students to learn while meeting their sensory needs. An iPad will allow my students to use different learning applications online. I also have students that are not able to write so allowing them to use an app that can upload worksheets onto the iPad for them to complete with typing will allow them to participate more. During structured breaks, having sensory friendly activities such as the magnet toys and kinetic sand will allow them to meet their sensory needs and learn at the same time. Sometimes, children with Autism need a break and I would like to set up a cooldown area; the students will be able to go and calm down when they need to and offer them visual timers and comfortable furniture that will allow for a calming and self- regulation environment. Children with Autism are also very visual so the poly spots will allow them to know exactly where they need to stay in places such as specials. This will help them to be more successful is less restrictive environments with their peers.
