I teach social studies and we do a lot of writing about historical events and current event issues. Having a writer's notebook will allow my students to document their ideas and to capture their development in writing throughout the year. Having notebooks will also create organization for my students. Notebooks may seem like a very simple tool, but they can be a lasting student artifact. Writing notebooks will allow my students to participate in the writing process by reflecting on main concepts, expressing their ideas, proof-reading, and with editing. The notebooks for my students will used frequently and will encourage them to be life-long writers.
