I have 8 students with severe reading disabilities. They read at least 2 grade levels below their current grade. Getting a pen for these students would open up so many more possibilities for them in the classroom. They could read the same stories as their peers in class and get to talk with them about it. Currently I experienced these students class was reading Harry Potter a very popular book but my students were given a much lower level book to read because of their reading level so they didn't get to experience the same thing their classmates did and this really upset them. I don't think having a disability should be a punishment and I feel like these pens could make a difference in their comprehension, it will increase their social skills, it will increase self-esteem and much more! At their fingertips will give them opportunities they could possibly never have. It also will take away the embarrassment of having a person have to read to them in front of all their friends. This is a device that could be used for the rest of their lives! If we can even get one pen we are beginning the process of giving my students access to a world where they can be successful in.
